Traffic aide faces probe for ‘mulcting’

ILOILO City – A traffic auxiliary assigned in Molo district is under investigation. He allegedly demanded money from a private vehicle owner he apprehended over a defective headlight.

According to the city government’s Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) chief Jeck Conlu, he right away removed the traffic auxiliary from Molo upon learning of the allegation over the radio, and ordered an investigation.

The traffic aide allegedly asked P500 from the apprehended private vehicle owner as the easier alternative to the much higher fine the latter could be facing at the Land Transportation Office.

“Allegedly nangayo sya (traffic aide) para indi na lang niya pagdakpon ang private vehicle owner,” said Conlu who declined to identify the traffic aide pending the result of the probe.

The PSTMO chief said what the traffic auxiliary should have done was issue a citation ticket to the private vehicle owner.

PSTMO disciplinary officer Atty. Richard Jeruta had been tasked to probe the traffic aide.

Conlu urged the private vehicle owner to file a formal complaint at the PSTMO.

The traffic aide could be dismissed from the service./PN
