ILOILO City – The city government has re-launched the Traffic Discipline Zone program, which the coronavirus pandemic stymied since 2020.

According to Jeck Conlu, head of the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO), on Wednesday night the PSTMO and the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) kicked off its joint operation against traffic violators along the Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr. Avenue popularly known as “Diversion Road” in Mandurriao District.

“Sige-sige na ini para ma-maintain ang discipline sa amo nga dalan,” said Conlu.

Prior to the pandemic, the busy 14-kilometer Diversion Road was declared a Traffic Discipline Zone.

For the first night operation, 36 motorists violating various traffic violations have been apprehended. Violations included over speeding, using of illegal modified mufflers, driving without a license, no helmet, defective and headlight, among others.

Conlu noted that the augmentation of ICPO is also part of the peace and order security plan of the city.

For the meantime, since they do not have enough personnel, their teams will focus on the Diversion Road.

However, Conlu said that, they will eventually expand to other streets in the city./PN
