ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Traffic Management Unit (ICTMU) is undertaking a major stickering campaign for traditional public utility jeepneys (PUJs), aiming to complete 85 percent to 90 percent of the 1,262 units today, Jan. 9.
This initiative is part of the enhanced Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) of the city government.
Retired police colonel Uldarico Garbanzos, the ICTMU chief, said his office is progressing towards the full implementation of the LPTRP. Only consolidated traditional and modernized jeepneys are authorized to operate in the city.
So far, over 800 jeepneys have been stickered.
The Land Transportation Office is conducting random checks and monitoring the routes of these traditional jeepneys.
Garbanzos emphasized the importance of cooperation among transport cooperatives to maintain discipline and help identify unauthorized (“colorum”) vehicles still operating in Iloilo City.
ICTMU is also focusing on educating drivers, conductors, and commuters about designated loading and unloading zones.
This initiative aims to ensure passengers board and disembark at proper locations. Garbanzos noted the challenge in educating commuters about these designated areas.
Furthermore, traffic enforcers have been briefed about the 850 inbound and outbound loading and unloading stops in the city./PN
