SAN JOSE, Antique – The first leg of the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s (BIR) information campaign on the salient provisions of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law was held in this capital town.

Accountants, bookkeepers and finance officers of government offices, nongovernment organizations, business establishments, schools, and local government units, and other stakeholders attended the seminar on March 7.

Revenue District Officer Eralen de Aro said the program aims to enlighten stakeholders on how the law will be implemented in their respective offices.

The TRAIN law, or Republic Act 10963, seeks to enhance the tax system in the country through the rationalization of the Philippine Internal Revenue Tax System thereby promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

Trainers from BIR Iloilo City field office discussed the important provisions and key amendments of the National Internal Revenue Code of 1997 including excise tax, revised withholding tax table, and benefits of TRAIN, among others, during the program.

It was emphasized during the activity that the new tax reform aims to make the country’s tax system “fair, simple and efficient.”

Even before its signing into law on Dec. 19 last year, TRAIN has drawn criticisms from various progressive groups, claiming that the average and low-income earners in the country will be aggravated when it pushes through.

TRAIN took effect on Jan. 1.

Meanwhile, the BIR Revenue District Office 73 has scheduled four clusters of orientation/briefing in other municipalities in Antique.

The target towns include Tobias Fornier, Culasi, Bugasong, and Sibalom. (With a report from Pilar Mabaquiao/PIA/PN)
