ILOILO City – A transport cooperative here received two electric public utility vehicles (e-PUVs).

The official turnover to the Aerostar1 Transport Multi-Purpose Cooperative was held on Monday at the Iloilo City Hall grounds. It was graced by Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Region 6 legal officer Atty. Joscet Buyco-Abellar, Department of Science and Technology Iloilo provincial director Engr. Sheila Oberio, Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, and other city hall officials.

The initiative was in partnership with the Department of Transportation, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the Global Environment Facility.

“On behalf of the city, I am immensely thankful to UNDP for the two electric buses donated to the cooperative. We are looking forward to more electric vehicles for Iloilo City to reduce the carbon superare here in Iloilo City,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.

Meanwhile, Program Analyst Gwyneth Palmos said the UNDP looks forward to more collaborations with the city.

“On behalf of the United Nations Development Programme, we’re pleased to be here with you today to mark the important event of our partnership with the city under the promotion of low-carbon urban transport systems project or LCT,” Palmos said.

Palmos said that transportation forms the city’s lifeblood, connects stabilities in the city’s economic growth, and shapes the daily lives of its population.

She added it is also paramount to pursue sustainable transportation designed not just to reduce traffic congestion or emissions but to create a more livable and healthier or reputable urban development.

“Thank you so much for the partnership. We are grateful to all of our partners. Madamo gid nga salamat,” said Palmos./PN
