Frank Carbon, operator of Weesam Express said the staging of the “People’s Holiday” by the transport sector to protest against the spate of fuel price increases recently never disrupt their operation.
Carbon, who is also the executive director of Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry disclosed that they are not in favor of the clamor of the transport groups to the government to stop the implementation of the excise tax.
This is because a great help to the government in implementing the build, build the program as well as to the business sector, he explained.
Carbon advised the transport group to better ask the government for the fuel subsidy, cash card, and fare increase.
It learned that the Weesam plying to Iloilo and Bacolod, vice versa, had imposed the fare hike last week by P25.
On his part, Mayor Evelio Leonardia said, “it is going to be business as usual at the Bacolod City Government Center.”
“Your city government commiserates with the transport groups’ sentiments and disappointments. We express our solidarity with you as you call on national agencies to provide some relief to an already difficult situation that is further compounded by the current health crisis,” the mayor said.
Leonardia added, “We wish you a peaceful activity next week. And I reiterate my call for sobriety. Let us also show respect for other stakeholders, who may not join the protest action.”
So as not to disrupt the local government services to its constituents, the city government will observe regular office hours.
The local government will also provide transport services to employees, who may be stranded as a result of the “People’s Holiday”.
