ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas cited the principle of inclusivity in inviting critics to give a lecture to the city’s traffic aides in a bid to improve the traffic situation.
The city mayor instructed Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) head Jeck Conlu to invite loud critics of the city’s traffic management to give an eight-hour lecture on traffic management with field demonstration to the traffic aides.
“To the question why we will invite Mr. Lujan to lecture on traffic aides and how he wants us to improve: Governance is a shared responsibility between the governors and the governed. We opened this up to Mr. Lujan because of the principle of inclusivity,” said Treñas.
He was referring to Nereo Lujan, head of the Public Information and Community Affairs Office (PICAO) of the Iloilo provincial capitol, whom he named as of one of those who will be invited to do the lecture.
He added the city government is also open to anyone who can contribute for the betterment of the city.
“We will always listen to everyone since we really do not know where the good ideas will come from. We are open to listen not only to Mr. Lujan but also to others who feel they have something to contribute. After all, we all live here and whatever improvements we can do will redound for the benefit of everyone,” Treñas said.
Earlier, the city mayor said the city will not insist if Lujan won’t accept the invitation.
“Ah, ti, kun indi siya, basi waay man siya may i-share. Kung waay siya ma-share, indi ta siya pagpiliton. Indi ta kapuga sang tubig sa bato,” Treñas said.
For his part, Lujan said he has not received an invitation.
“How can I decide on something, like an invitation, nga wala ko pa nabaton? So normally, ang tawo kon imbitaron padal-an na sia sang imbitasyon. After receiving it, maka-decide sia kon batunon ‘ya or indi,” Lujan said.
He explained there are considerations in making a decision like terms of reference, including the lecture’s topic, the date and venue, the audience, the capacity of the resource speaker, and the city’s purpose for having him as a lecturer.
“The ball is in their hands. Kon may imbitasyon sila, ti, lantawon ta eh,” he added./PN
