ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas will reward with P100,000 whoever could arrest or give information that would lead to the arrest of three men who burglarized the office of an express delivery courier in Barangay Quintin Salas, Jaro district on Wednesday night, March 1.
He also ordered the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) to increase police visibility in the city.
Personnel of J&T Express were conducting an inventory when gun-wielding men barged in, declared a holdup and carted away a total of P622,966 in cash.
The ICPO vowed to solve the case.
Police Major Shella Mae Sangrines, ICPO spokesperson, said two of the three suspects have been identified.
“Ginakasubo sang pamunuan sang ICPO nga apisar sang proactive nga mga tikang nga ginahimu sang mga kapulisan, sa gihapon indi naton maperpekto. Nalutsan kita sang pagpangawat sa distrito sang Jaro,” said Sangrines.
More establishments in CCTV ordinance
Treñas directed the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) and the City Legal Office (CLO) to draft amendments to the CCTV ordinance to widen its scope.
He found out that express delivery courier companies are not among the establishments required to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
“We will require other establishments to have CCTVs for their safety,” said Treñas.
Regulation Ordinance No. 2011-307 (Closed-Circuit Television Ordinance) requires the installation of video surveillance cameras in banks and their satellite offices, branches and automated teller machines, money changers, pawnshops and lending and/or financial institutions, hotels, motels, malls, supermarkets, gas stations, land transport and seaport terminals, convenience stores operating 24 hours or which operate during nighttime, private schools, stores selling liquor, including but not limited to disco houses or clubs, places and spaces where critical assets or properties of the city government are situated.
J&T Express has no security guard or CCTV camera, police said.
A witness said the robbers were wearing full-face helmets and bonnets.
They were riding two motorcycles – a red Suzuki Smash with a black sticker had one rider and another motorcycle carried two suspects.
“Naga-istoryahanay man lang sila. Abi ko tinawo sang J&T kay kalabanan sang tinawo nila naka-motor, abi ko nag-remit lang sila,” alias “Jep” told Radyo Bistado.
The fully-armed robbers entered the office, closed the rollup door and declared, “Holdup ‘ni, indi kamo maghulag kay paniruhon ta kamo.”
The wallet of the company finance officer containing ATM cards, identification cards, P2,000 in cash, and a cell phone were among those taken.
Police said the roberss fled to the direction of Barangay Tacas, Jaro./PN
