ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas has been discharged from St. Luke’s Medical Center in Taguig City, 11 days after undergoing a successful bile duct operation on Nov. 11.
In a statement, Treñas confirmed that his doctors have cleared him to rest and recover fully.
The mayor plans to stay in his condominium for two weeks to complete his follow-up medical checkups before returning to Iloilo City.
Once there, Treñas said he intends to “take it easy” for another two weeks to ensure his full recovery.
Treñas earlier expressed gratitude for the positive outcome of his bile duct operation at St. Luke’s Medical Center, as his medical team confirmed there were no signs of cancer.
He acknowledged the importance of taking time for rest and recovery, following his doctor’s advice, to ensure a full recuperation. He also extended his heartfelt thanks to God and the medical team for his improved health.
“Ginapasalamatan ko kamo tanan sa inyo padayon nga suporta kag pangamuyo,””he said, adding that he drew strength from their collective faith and encouragement.
Treñas said he is presently prioritizing rest and recovery following his recent bile duct operation but expressed excitement about returning to Iloilo City next month to celebrate his birthday with the community. He also requested continued prayers for his fast and complete recovery.
In a significant political announcement, Treñas in September confirmed his decision not to seek re-election, citing that stepping down would best serve Team Uswag and the city’s interests.
To ensure the continuity of his programs and vision for Iloilo City, he has endorsed his daughter, Raisa Treñas-Chu, as his successor in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections.
While focusing on his recovery from bile duct surgery, the mayor remains optimistic about Iloilo City’s unity and progress, emphasizing the power of collective action.
“There is nothing we cannot do if we do it together. We can accomplish so much if we are united and think as one Ilonggo family for the good of our future generations,” Treñas said.
During his medical leave, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ensured the continuity of governance by appointing Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon as the acting mayor and Councilor Sedfrey Cabaluna as the acting vice mayor of Iloilo City.
DILG Secretary Benjamin Abalos issued a memorandum formalizing Cabaluna’s designation, specifying that his duties exclude actions covered under DILG Memo Circular No. 2019-21./PN
