ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry Treñas got his initial dose of the China-made CoronaVac vaccine as protection against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) yesterday.
Already a senior citizen and an immunocompromised, the city mayor was inoculated at the West Visayas State University Medical Center (WVSU-MC) in La Paz district in the presence of his doctors for diabetes, heart, allergy, among others.
“As your mayor with comorbidities and a senior citizen, I volunteered myself in this initiative to encourage more people to take their part in saving the world,” said Treñas.
Treñas shared that after he was inoculated, his blood pressure shot up a bit for a while but eventually, he felt fine.
The city mayor urged everyone to do their share in protecting the community from the unseen enemy by getting vaccinated.
“Ginaagda ko gid ang tanan nga indi magkahadlok sa pagpabakuna bangud ini ang makabulig para sa aton padayon nga pag-uswag. Let us do our share and protect our loved ones and our community,” the city mayor said.
Treñas also underscored that as the father of Iloilo City, it is his responsibility to ensure that his children are safe.
“For over a year, we have been struggling to survive. People’s lives and the economy were put at stake due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Vaccines give us a glimmer of hope,” he added.
In the past few weeks, the city government vaccinated frontliners.
Yesterday, the vaccination continued for at least 1,119 target senior citizens and persons with co-morbidities which include barangay captains at the SM City Iloilo in Mandurriao district. The first batch (800 people) was inoculated at the Central Philippines University (CPU) Gymnasium in Jaro on April 21.
“Ginakalipay ko gid nga nakasugod na kita sa pag protihir sa aton mga katigulangan kontra sa COVID-19. Salamat sa SM City Iloilo, daku nga bulig ang pagpahulam sang venue kag pagbulig sa pag-organize sang vaccine rollout. Being the most susceptible to infection, they must be protected from the risks of the deadly virus,” the city mayor said.
Treñas and SM City through SM Regional Operations Manager Girlie Liboon signed the Memorandum of Agreement that SM City Iloilo will be one of the venues for the vaccine rollout of the city./PN
