Treñas on possible reconciliation with Manikans: ‘Who knows?’

ILOILO City – “Wala man ko ga-dumut. Who knows?”

Mayor Jerry P. Treñas is open to reconciling with the Manikans, particularly with former Local Civil Registrar head Romeo “Juncae” Manikan Jr. with whom he had a legal battle.

The city mayor was slapped with three complaints before the Office of the Ombudsman, two of which were filed by Manikan and one by former City Health Officer Dr. Bernard Caspe. The Ombudsman recently dismissed the charges for lack of probable cause and substantial evidence.

Treñas clarified he doesn’t hold grudges and pointed out that he was the one who appointed Manikan to the post before.

“Wala ako gadumut bisan kay sin-o. We do not know what will happen someday. We can never tell,” he added.

Manikan, despite being in a legal battle with the city mayor, had said he holds Treñas “in high regard, being a godfather of my only son.”

“Kilalahay kami ni Mayor Treñas, mayo siya nga tawo, mayo nga mayor. In fact, I am looking forward gani nga in a working relationship kami liwat. I don’t believe nga madumot si Mayor. Hopeful ako nga tawo. Someday, in God’s time, mabalikay ang amon old relationship nga maayuhay,” he added.

To recall, Manikan was dismissed from service for allegedly accepting money from a client relative to processing a birth certificate. He filed an appeal against his dismissal before the Civil Service Commission (CSC)./PN
