MANILA — Cong. Jerry Treñas of Iloilo City said he will seek reelection in 2016.
“There are still many (bills) I am pushing right now that are in various stages of the legislative mill,” Treñas told Panay News.
Treñas is currently serving his second term in the House of Representatives.
The congressman dismissed speculations that he is aiming for the mayoral seat in Iloilo City.
Rumors have it that the lone district representative will endorse businessman Jojo Ang in the 2016 congressional race.
Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III will reportedly run for reelection under Ang’s ticket.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog, on the other hand, will face Treñas for the mayoralty post.
“I deny (that) vigorously,” Treñas said.
Treñas believes that Ang is a registered voter not in Iloilo City but in the municipality of Pavia in the 2nd District of Iloilo province.
He also said Mayor Mabilog remains his political ally.
Treñas has served for three terms as mayor of Iloilo City from 2001 to 2010.
In the 2004 and 2007 elections, he won by landslide in all voting precincts in the city./PN
