‘Selfie’ is a modern day jargon we usually read, hear and do almost every day. We see it on our various social media accounts with friends using a hashtag post. Whether you admit it or not, we do a selfie at some point in our lives.
A selfie is done when one poses in front of a handheld camera device (commonly used are mobile phones with front cameras) without asking other people’s help. In other words, we make our own self-portrait.
Techie Filipinos are hooked in taking a selfie thus, making the Philippines a “selfie nation” garnering a record with the highest number of selfie pictures taken within a day. Moreover, the youth are now tagged as the “selfie generation.”
As a proof of how famous the selfie mania is, a song is composed and has now been hitting the television and radio waves. It even gained a thousand views on Youtube.
The famous “The Selfie Song” is sung and composed by Davey Langit is now a popular piece to the masses.
The lyrics of the song perfectly define what people does when taking a selfie. The song rose to popularity since the ‘selfie generation’ can definitely relate with it.
The chorus of “The Selfie Song” goes:
Tara na’t mag-selfie selfie selfie selfie tayo ‘pag may time
Ipakita sa mundo ang maganda mong smile
Selfie selfie selfie selfie tayo ‘pag may time
Ang pagiging maganda’t pogi it aint a crime
Selfie selfie din ‘pag may time
Further explanation is no longer needed because everyone can attest how true and accurate its message is.
Setting aside our narcissistic side, we have others reasons or excuses when taking a selfie.
Others do when they are bored; some does it for fun, while others just follow the trend.
Though linked to a mental disorder, we have to face the fact that the ‘selfie’ trend is here to stay./PN
