BACOLOD City – Tribu Sicablun Quatro was declared champion of the 50th Dinagsa Festival street dance competition in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental on Sunday, January 26.
The contingent from barangays Sicaba, Luna and Zone 4 took home the P200,000 grand prize. They also bagged the Best in Costume and Best in Choreography awards with additional cash prize of P25,000 for each minor award.
Tribu Tinambi-Tres of barangays Tinampaan, Mabini and Zone 3 placed first runner-up and received a cash prize of P175,000. They also got the Best in Performance award.
Last year’s grand winner, Tribu Bucad Cadiz Viejo of barangays Burgos, Caduhaan and Cadiz Viejo, settled for second runner-up, followed by Tribu Hitalon of barangays Zones 1 and 6 as the third runner-up.
The rest of the competing tribes received P50,000 each as a consolation prize:
* Tribu Vilgus of barangays Celestino Villacin and V.F. Gustilo
* Tribu Yabyab Dungol of barangays Zones 2 and 5
* Tribu Majeca of barangays Magsaysay, Jerusalem and Cabahug
* Tribu Tibanda of barangays Tiglawigan, Banquerohan and Daga
Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. thanked and praised all the participating barangays in their splendid and world-class performances in this year’s street dance competition themed “Dinagsa goes international”.
“They all manifested the culture, compassion and mindset of excellence,” he said. “The eight competing tribes showcased dynamism and the beauty of synergy as added elements to the real core of celebrating Dinagsa Festival annually – faith and devotion to the city’s patron, Sto. Niño de Cadiz.”/PN
