
CAPIZ – A tricycle driver was caught for indiscriminate discharge of firearm and for violating the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban around 8:50 p.m. on Monday, February 17, in Barangay Poblacion, President Roxas town.
President Roxas police said the suspect identified as alias “Nel”, 39, from the town’s Barangay Hanglid, fired his unlicensed caliber .38 revolver in Barangay Ibaca for no apparent reason.
Aside from the said firearm, responding police officers also recovered three live cartridges and three fired cartridge cases of the said caliber and a motorcycle.
Police Regional Office 6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky lauded the alertness and vigilance of the people in the area and the swift action of the police that resulted to the arrest of the suspect.
“We sincerely extend our appreciation to the members of the community for reporting the said incident. This scenario is a manifestation of a strong collaborative effort of the public and the police. Mas maganda po na meron po kayong telephone or cell phone numbers ng ating mga police units para sa mas mabilis na responde sa panahon ng pangangailangan,” he added.
The suspect was detained at the President Roxas police station. He will be charged with violation of Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, in relation to Coemlec Resolution 11067 (Comelec gun ban)./PN
