ILOILO City – A tricycle and a sport utility vehicle collided yesterday morning in Barangay Lanag, Santa Barbara, Iloilo. Four persons died and one was injured.
The collision happened at around 1:12 a.m., according to Senior Inspector Rey Pabalan, Santa Barbara police chief.
The casualties were Jero Poll Souribio, 27; and siblings Eljay Surmieda, 19; Romel Surmieda, 25; and Janice Surmieda, 21. All were in the tricycle and residents of Barangay Lanag.
Three were declared dead at the Western Visayas Medical Center while the other at the West Visayas State University Medical Center, said Pabalan.
Souribio was driving the tricycle.
On the other hand, the injured person, 19-year-old Aries Severo of Barangay Bolong Oeste, Santa Barbara, was confined at the West Visayas State University Medical Center. He was driving the sport utility vehicle, a Hyundai Tucson.
According to Pabalan, Severo was driving fast.
The tricycle and the car were a totally wreck, he added.
At the time of the vehicular accident, Severo was bound for Barangay Cafe, Santa Barbara, said Pabalan.
“Based on our initial investigation, Severo’s father owned a car repair shop and the sport utility vehicle was owned by a client who had it repaired. The son did not inform his father he would be driving it,” said Pabalan.
The young Severo was placed under hospital arrest yesterday, according to the municipal police chief.
He would be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide./PN
