Trike drivers get fuel subsidy

BACOLOD City – Tricycle drivers in this city each received a P1,000 fuel subsidy yesterday, Sept. 13.

The one-time financial assistance for all tricycles-for-hire with an existing valid franchise was stipulated in City Ordinance (CO) No. 1003, which has an allocation of P5 million.

There were 76 existing Tricycle Operators and Drivers Associations (TODAs) composed of 5,610 franchised tricycles-for-hire.

But of the 76 TODAs, only five have so far been on the list to receive the subsidy after complying with all documentary requirements.

“The national government, through the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, has provided fuel subsidies to jeepney drivers, but tricycle drivers who are also utilizing fuel in their livelihood have not received such benefits,” said Councilor Em Ang.

Ang added the city government is still receiving documents from other TODAs who want to avail themselves of the subsidy./PN
