MANILA – Sen. Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV was arraigned before the Makati Regional Trial Court Branch 142 on a charge of libel by former Makati mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay.
Binay filed a complaint for libel after Trillanes alleged that the Court of Appeals Associate Justices Jose Reyes and Francisco Acosta were bribed with P25 million each to stop the Ombudsman’s suspension order against the ex-mayor.
“The libel case won’t stop me from bringing down corrupt people like them,” said Trillanes, who pleaded not guilty at arraignment.
“Hindi ako matitinag sa pagpapabagsak sa mga kurakot na tao kagaya nila. Itong libel case na ito, hindi ito magiging balakid sa mga misyon na aking ginagawa…. If I will speak my mind again in the future, kung kailangan gagawin ko.”
For her part, Sen. Nancy Binay said the arraignment of Trillanes only means there was “truth” to their libel complaint.
“We just follow the rule of law. Nandun na ang proseso, umaandar na. Ever since naman ‘yan naman ginagawa namin. It’s not all about publicity. We are just exercising our right. Sinisiraan niya kami,” Binay said./PN
