MANILA – Sen. Antonio “Sonny” Trillanes IV is urging the Office of the Ombudsman to immediately resolve the plunder complaint that he filed against President Rodrigo Duterte, involving the latter’s alleged undeclared assets worth billions of pesos.
Close to a year after Duterte won the presidential elections in May 2016, Trillanes last Thursday, on live television, accused the chief executive of having bank transactions amounting to P2.4 billion.
Trillanes criticized the President for deviating from the issue. He said he would not address Duterte’s “insults” against him.
During a speech in Panacan, Davao City on Feb. 16, Duterte challenged the senator to prove his “old” and “rehashed” allegation.
He would also resign if proven he has a P2 billion or even just half a billion undeclared funds, the President said.
“This is amusing how Trillanes came up with his accounting. He even included a day to day banking transactions of my partner Honeylet. This just shows his ignorance with regards to the regular banking business. The people who have personal businesses,” Duterte said.
Duterte explained that his daughter Sara, now mayor of Davao City, earns from her law profession and “not from illegal retainers which Trillanes is so used to so doing.”
He also came to his common-law wife’s defense, saying that she has a doughnut business and supplies meat to five malls in Davao.
