ILOILO City – A Jaro district police officer was disarmed and placed under restriction. His service firearm accidentally went off, hitting a trisikad driver.
Police Officer 1 Janny Lou Horario, 33, is under investigation for the Saturday night incident.
The trisikad driver, Antonio Tolentino, died at the West Visayas State University Medical Center. He sustained a gunshot wound near the chest.
Horario’s gun was a .9mm pistol.
According to Inspector Ronaldo Amihan, Jaro police chief, the incident happened around 7:15 p.m. Horario was chasing the driver of an owner-type jeep that figured in a vehicular accident.
The cop accidentally dropped his gun. It went off, hitting Tolentino who was nearby.
