ILOILO City – “Planted” was how trisikad driver Jay-R “Burnoy” Jarangay described the plastic packs of suspected shabu seized from him during a police operation in Barangay Mali-ao, Pavia, Iloilo.
Police said the 28-year-old resident of the same barangay sold a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover officer for P500. Five more sachets of the same substance were recovered from him.
While he denied owning the substance, Jarangay claimed he used to snort drugs but stopped after surrendering as part of the police’s Oplan Double Barrel that cracked down on drug users and dealers.
“Indi na akon ang mga items, planted lang na,” Jarangay said. “Pero Tokhang surrenderee ako. Gagamit ako sang una pero nag-untat na ako pag-surrender ko.”
Chief Inspector Jonathan Pinuela, Pavia police chief, confirmed that Jarangay turned himself in to their station in November last year.
Charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 have been filed against Jarangay on Tuesday.
Officers from the Pavia police station and the Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit staged the operation around 3:15 p.m. on Monday.
The recovered substance was turned over to the Police Regional Office 6 crime laboratory in Camp Martin Delgado./PN
