BACOLOD City – The driver of the truck that crushed a teenage student in E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental last week tested negative for illegal drugs.
But charges of vehicular manslaughter filed on Dec. 16 against 40-year-old Dante Sebugero will continue, according to Police Major Kenneth Jay Gratones, E.B. Magalona police chief.
He also said they were verifying if the driver was suffering from a mental illness, noting that Sebugero kept grinning for no apparent reason while detained at the police station.
E.B. Magalona mayor Marvin Malacon, meanwhile, said he already met with the parents of 16-year-old victim Kevin Liscano.
He vowed to help the family and released an initial cash aid of P50,000.
The office of 3rd District’s Cong. Jose Francisco “Kiko” Benitez also handed over assistance to the family.
On Thursday, Dec. 15, Sebugero’s cane truck ran over Liscano.
Liscano and his classmates were heading home after attending a Christmas party./PN
