‘Trust’ key to Cherry Tiggo’s PVL crown – Ilongga players

MANILA – In the just-concluded Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Open Conference in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Cherry Tiggo Crossovers clinched the championship crown after mauling Creamline Cool Smashers in the do-or-die Game 3 of the finals on Friday.

Ilongga volleybelles Ma. Shaya Adorador and Beatriz Duremdes attributed their success that led to the easy 23-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-8 win to their trust in one another.

Outside hitter Adorador shared that she was able to bring out the best in her during their PVL bubble campaign due to the overwhelming trust she received from her teammates.

Ewan ko kung alam nung mga teammates ko pero grabe ‘yung tiwala na binibigay nila sa akin kaya tumaas ang confidence ko sa sarili ko,” said Adorador, a native of Leon, Iloilo.

Ginawa lang namin inspirasyon ‘yung bawat isa ‘yung mga pinaghirapan namin simula’t simula kaya siguro ‘yun ‘yung naging center namin para i-push ‘yung championship,” she added.

The former University of the East Lady Warriors stalwart further stated that Duremdes, who plays the libero position, was a big help in making the Crossovers’ defense potent. She said: “Si Buding [Duremdes] na kasama ko sa likod para dumipensa at mag-receive hindi madali ‘yun para sa amin pero nakikita namin ‘yung tiwala ng mga mamamalo namin na binibigay nila sa aming dalawa.”

For Duremdes, the encouraging words from her teammates as well as from coach Aaron Velez and family boosted her confidence after a subpar showing in the early part of their championship series with Creamline Cool Smashers.

Siyempre kailangan ako ng team, kailangan ko dumepensa, kailangan ko ru-meceive tapos thankful ako sa lahat ng nagme-message na gawin ko daw kung ano ako,” said the Dumangas, Iloilo-native Duremdes.

Meanwhile, Velez expressed his gratitude to Adorador and Duremdes, along with other Chery Tiggo players, for they remained committed to their goal of winning the PVL crown.

“I’m just so grateful for the players’ commitment. Whatever adjustments we were doing, they were up for it,” according to Velez. “I’m just really thankful that the players gave their all that we were able to achieve our goal.”/PN
