ILOILO City – Good news for senior citizens in of Iloilo province. Barring unforeseen circumstances, they would be enjoying free movies courtesy of the provincial government.

Iloilo vice governor Raul Tupas yesterday told Panay News he would propose an ordinance binding the provincial government to sponsor free movies for the senior citizens in the province.

“We have to give privileges to our senior citizens even in a little way,” Tupas said while gracing the “Reklamo Publiko” radio/television program.

He said this project would be in partnership with SM City Iloilo to commence in October this year.

“We had talked already with the mall management. Now we are ready to take up this matter with the provincial board,” said Tupas.

A senior citizen, however, must present his/her valid senior citizen identification card from the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) in the province to avail himself/herself of free movies.

This projec had already been done by the local government of Iloilo City.

Another program guest, Provincial Board member June Mondejar who chairs the senior citizens committee, had launched the search for the most senior citizen-friendly municipality.

Mondejar said the search would end on October with some guidelines to be followed.

Every town should have a well-established senior citizens’ center, good partnership with non-government organizations serving senior citizens and municipal assistance to senior citizens./PN
