ILOILO City – Two college students died and six others were injured after their vehicle collided with 10-wheeler truck in Barangay Tacas, Jaro district around 4 a.m. yesterday, January 27.
The 22-year-old Mitsubishi Mirage driver Kim Joseph Sumaguio, a second year college student at St. Therese College and a resident of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo, and 24-year-old Rizalyn Anacan, a student at Iloilo Science and Technology University from Barangay Cayos, Dumangas town, suffered severe body injuries.
They died while receiving treatment at Metro Iloilo Hospital and Medical Center, Inc., police said.
Their six other companions sustained injuries and were recuperating at different hospital here.
According to Police Major Shella Mae Sangrines, spokesperson for the Iloilo City Police Office, the car carrying eight persons was from a bar in Mandurriao district and was en route to Dumangas when the accident occurred.
“The force of the collision caused significant damage to the private vehicle, and all the passengers were rushed to the hospital,” said Sangrines.
In a radio interview with Police Coporal Andy Pava, traffic investigator of Jaro police station, the speeding car overtook a pickup truck and failed to go back to its lane and collided with the truck driven by Freddie Ceryos running in opposite direction.
The said truck was carrying plywood and was bound to Molo district.
