TIBIAO, Antique – Two persons were killed and two others survived after a banca reportedly capsized in the municipal sea water of Barangay Sto. Rosario here on Saturday morning.
According to the police report, at around 8 a.m. Feb. 2, the victims – all residents of Barangay Sto. Rosario – were on a paddling boat when their small vessel capsized due to strong waves.
A fisherman found them floating around an hour after their boat capsized. The rescuer found the two victims: 7-year-old Mark John Lista and 66-year-old Loreto Esparagoza already unconscious and floating on the water.
The two other victims were 12-year-old Joshua Lista and 9-year-old John Carlo Lista. The four were all rushed by members of Tibiao Municipal Disaster and Risk Reduction Office (MDRRMO) to Pedro L. Gindap Municipal Hospital in Barbaza, a nearby town, but Mark John and Loreto were declared “dead on arrival” by the attending physician./PN
