Two die in Negros drowning incidents

BACOLOD City – Two persons died in separate drowning incidents in Negros Occidental over the weekend.

The first case happened in Barangay Tagda in Hinigaran town. The 32-year-old fisherman Joel Guanzon went out for fishing with five companions.

From what the police gathered so far, Guanzon dived under water using his compressor and accidentally got trapped in his hose line at the fish net and immediately cut off his air supply. He tried to loosen the hose but he was trapped on the fish net.

The incident happened around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday about three kilometers away from the shoreline of Barangay Tagda.

Guanzon was rushed to the Isabela District Hospital where the attending physician declared him “dead on arrival.”

The second case happened in Barangay Talaban, Himamaylan City. The drowning victim was Narciso Cabero Esperal, 64, of Purok Lopez Jaena in the said village.

Esperal, who was believed to be suffering from a mental ill, was discovered lifeless by Lloyd Miranda and Dexter Talaman along the shoreline of Punta Talaban around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The victim was last seen around 3:30 p.m. sitting at an abandoned fishpond at Purok Lopez Jaena in the said village and reportedly swam across the river towards Punta Talaban.

The victim was brought to the nearby Himamaylan City District hospital but was pronounced “dead on arrival.”
