ILOILO – Two minors drowned in Barangay Poblacion Ilaud, Barotac Viejo, Iloilo.
The two girls, aged 11 and 12, were working on a school project when they decided to take a dip in the river around 9 a.m. on Friday, May 12.
Police Major Ceriaco Esquelarga, chief of the Barotac Viejo Municipal Police Station, said the girls, along with two others, told their parents they would go to the store.
Resident Joebert Canarejo, in a radio interview, said he was home when two other children sought help.
“Nagapungko ako diri. May duha ka bata na hapo-hapo nga daw ginakulbaan nagkadto diri sa akon tapos naghambal sila nga ang ila upod nalumos dira sa suba, amo to dayun hambal ko sa ila indi na kamo magbalik sa tubi kay matawag ko pulis,” said Canarejo.
The victims were declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.
Esquelarga also reminded parents, especially those living near the river, to keep an eye on their children./PN
