BACOLOD City – Two more sacadas or sugar migrant workers tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing to eight the total number of infected workers.

Zeaphard Caelian, Provincial Incident Management Team head, said they received the new results on Thursday. The latest cases were immediately placed in isolation.

According to Caelian, the number of sacadas from Antique has now reached 1,808. The latest batch arrived on Thursday.
An estimated 5,000 sacadas are expected to work in the province’s vast sugarcane plantations.

Caelian asked labor contractors to coordinate with the provincial government. He also instructed the Philippine Coast Guard to block migratory workers who have no proper coordination with the provincial government./PN
