BACOLOD City – Two wing vans collided then burst into flames in Purok Katilingban, Barangay Sagwa Banwa, Valladolid, Negros Occidental. Four persons were killed.
Police identified the casualties as brothers Wendel Larios, 37, and Carlo, 26, both residents of Barangay Pandanon, Mabinay, Negros Oriental; Evel Elostrisimo and Diany Garcia from Barangay E. Lopez, Silay City, Negros Occidental.
The collision happened shortly after midnight yesterday, according to Captain Wilfredo Benoman Jr., Valladolid police chief.
Wendel and Carlo were headed to this city.
Wendel was driving their Fuso van. He lost control of it. They crashed against the van of Evel and Diany.
The collision, Benoman said, might have caused the fuel tank of one of the vans to explode with the victims trapped inside their vehicles.
According to some residents, the victims were screaming while fire engulfed their vans.
Several rescue units and fire trucks in the province also came to their aid but there was just nothing they could do to free them due to the intensity of the flames.
The victims were brought to a local mortuary in Bago City, Negros Occidental.
Benoman cautioned motorists to be careful when passing the area as numerous accidents already happened there./PN
