MANILA – The northeastern portions of Iloilo and Capiz were placed under tropical cyclone signal No. 1 due to Typhoon “Ambo” late afternoon yesterday.
Intermittent rains were expected in the next 36 hours, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) in its 5 p.m. weather bulletin.
“Ambo” made landfall at around 12:15 p.m. yesterday at the San Policarpio town in Eastern Samar, packing maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 190 kph.
Other areas under signal No. 1 were Oriental Mindoro, eastern portion of Pangasinan, the rest of Quezon, the rest of Batangas, northern portion of Leyte, Metro Manila, Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Cavite, Rizal, Bataan, Pampanga, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Tarlac, and Zambales.
Signal No. 2 was hoisted on the southern portion of Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Laguna, southeastern portion of Batangas, northernmost portion of Leyte, the rest of Samar, and Eastern Samar.
Under signal No. 3 were Sorsogon, Albay, Masbate including Ticao and Burias islands, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, southernmost portion of Quezon, northern Samar, northern portion of Eastern Samar, and Biliran.
“Ambo”, the first typhoon to enter the country this year, is expected to weaken over the weekend and will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday evening, according to PAGASA./PN
