BACOLOD City – Several residents of San Enrique town in Negros Occidental who were affected by Typhoon “Egay” last year have availed themselves of financial assistance from the National Housing Authority (NHA).

“Egay” brought widespread flooding and landslides in different parts of the country in July 2023, including Negros Occidental, where at least five people lost their lives, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.

Mayor Jilson Tubillara said 507 residents from the town’s 10 barangays each received P10,000 in cash during the distribution held yesterday, August 15, at San Enrique Cultural Center.

Qualified beneficiaries were those whose houses were destroyed or damaged by the typhoon as identified by the barangay health workers and personnel of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

The mayor thanked Sen. Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, who was present during the distribution, for facilitating the release of the cash assistance that has long been delayed.

Apart from the cash assistance, the local government of San Enrique had provided the beneficiaries construction materials to help them in the repair of their houses./PN
