MANILA – Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles stayed immaculate in the UAAP Season 84 men’s basketball. It defeated the University of the East Red Warriors, 76-63, on Tuesday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
BJ Andrade drilled five triples to finish with 19 points, while Angelo Kouame and Bacolodnon Samjosef Belangel had 15 and 13 points, respectively, as the Blue Eagles improved to 9-0.
Ahead by just three after the opening frame, the Blue Eaglesvput the clamps on the Red Warriors in the second quarter, limiting them to just three points while draining 18 points for a 38-20 score.
The Red Warriors were able to cut the deficit to 10 in the third period but the Blue Eagles were just too much, answering all Red Warriors’ runs with baskets from Andrade.
“UE and Coach Jamike always play a spoiling role. We did enough to win but we’re not happy with the efficiency of our offense,: said Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin.
Nico Paranada delivered 18 points on just 13 shots, while Clint Escamis chalked up 13 points, six rebounds, and six assists as the Red Warriors fell to 0-9.
Meanwhile, Adamson University Falcons (3-6) secured its second-straight victory after outlasting National University Bulldogs (4-5) in a tightly-contested game, 62-55.
Ahead by just a point after a layup by NU’sJake Figueroa, Adamson notched five straight points from Aklanon Keith Zaldivar and Joshua Yerro for a 58-52 lead.
Shaun Ildefonso was quick to answer for the Bulldogs with a corner trey to cut their deficit to 55-58 but the Falcons leaned on defensive stops to preserve the win.
Jerom Lastimosa led the Falcons with 17 points, five rebounds, four assists, three blocks, and two steals, Didat Hanapi chipped in 13 points, while Zaldivar added 10 points and four rebounds.
