
MANILA – Far Eastern University Lady Tamaraws ousted Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles with a 25-23, 22-25, 25-22, 25-13 victory in the UAAP Season 87 Women’s Volleyball on Wednesday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Faida Bakanke led the way with 19 points, while Gerzel Petallo and Chen Tagaod contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively, as the Lady Tamaraws elevated their record to 8-4 in third place.
After a closely contested first three sets, the Lady Tamaraws opened the fourth frame with a 10-3 blast behind conversions from Tagaod, Petallo, and Karyll Miranda.
The Blue Eagles managed to cut the deficit to within 8-12, but Miranda and Clarisse Loresco retaliated for the Lady Tamaraws by establishing a 17-9 lead that put the game away.
AC Miner finished with 17 points, while rookie Jihan Chuatico added 13 markers for the Blue Eagles, who bowed out of Final Four contention with their 4-8 win-loss slate.
Meanwhile, defending champions National University Lady Bulldogs regained their winning ways with a 25-8, 25-22, 25-12 rout over University of the East Lady Warriors.
Mhicaela Belen top-scored with 16 points, from 14 attacks and two service aces, to go with 13 excellent digs and eight excellent receptions as the Lady Bulldogs moved closer to a twice-to-beat incentive with their 10-2 win-loss slate.
Aisha Bello and Evangeline Alinsug tallied nine markers apiece, while Celine Marsh and Erin Pangilinan contributed seven points each for the Lady Bulldogs, which bounced back from a loss to the Adamson University Lady Falcons last Sunday.
Alyssa Solomon sat out for the second straight game for the defending champions, the Lady Bulldogs, due to a mild ankle sprain.
Khy Cepada, Nessa Bangayan, and Risa Nogales finished with six points apiece as the Lady Warriors dropped to a 0-12 win-loss card./PN
