MANILA – Jarvey Gayoso scored a hat trick as the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles cruised to a 7-1 win over Adamson University Falcons in the UAAP Season 81 men’s football on Sunday at the FEU-Diliman pitch.
With his performance, the Philippine U-23 Azkals member Gayoso became the league’s top goal scorer with seven conversions, leapfrogging past his teammate Rupert Baña who has six.
Jeremiah Rocha, Julian Roxas, Mark Nacional and Jabez Setters also contributed a conversion each for the Blue Eagles, which moved up to the top spot of the standings with 16 points.
Far Eastern University Tamaraws was relegated to the second spot following a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers. It was the Tamaraws’ second straight loss.
Alijreh Fuchigami’s second-half header over goalkeeper Dave Parac was enough for the Growling Tigers to moved up to third place with 14 points, one off the second-running Tamaraws.
Defending champion University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons joined De La Salle University Green Archers in fourth place with 13 points following a 2-0 victory on the latter.
Karl Bugayong put the Fighting Maroons on top just seven minutes after the opening whistle, before King Miyagi doubled the advantage with a 51st minute strike./PN
