BACOLOD City – Negrense sprinter Hannah Jandra Delotavo is set to bring her talents to the big league in Manila after formalizing her commitment to De La Salle University (DLSU) of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP).
The Silay City, Negros Occidental-native confirmed her move to the Lady Archers’ athletics team after strutting her wares for Bacolod Tay Tung High School in the secondary level.
At DLSU, Delotavo is expected to compete in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dash events. She garnered numerous gold medals in these pet events while playing for Bacolod Tay Tung.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity na binigay sa akin ng DLSU,” Delotavo said. “Una, dream ko lang naman itong makalaro sa isang team tulad ng DLSU. Now it’s happening.”
“I really worked hard for this. And this wouldn’t be possible without the help of my coaches, family and of course, sir Jose Montalbo,” she added. “I am looking forward to my first UAAP competition.”
She is also excited with her impending transfer to DLSU, where she will reunite with former Tay Tung teammate Franz Bintad and fellow Negrense Bernalyn Bejoy.
“I am looking forward to learn more sa DLSU kasi I know na marami pa akong kailangang i-improve sa aking sarili,” Delotavo said. “I am hoping na makaka-contribute ako sa team because I am excited to wear the green and white.”
Delatovo was also a decorated player that represented Western Visayas in the National Private Schools Athletic Association and the Milo Little Olympics.
Last year, she was named as the Most Valuable Player in the Filipino-Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation Track and Field Invitational Cup after winning four gold medals and a silver medal./PN
