MANILA – University of the East Red Warriors football team standout Mar Diano will also test the waters abroad after agreeing to play for Thailand League 1 squad Muangthong United.

The Masbate-native will be teaming up with his Azkals Developmental Team teammate Jarvey Gayoso.

“We have accepted Muangthong’s offer (for Diano) to join the club,” said Azkals Developmental Team head coach Scott Cooper. “We feel that it’s a good move because Muangthong is a strong club with a big history.”

Diano’s move came just less than a month after Gayoso’s impending transfer was also announced by Cooper who expressed confidence that the two players can make an impact in Thailand.

“Both players can thrive in the Thai League and it will help them that they are in the same club,” said Cooper.

Apart from suiting up for the Red Warriors in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines and with Azkals in the Philippines Football League, the 23-year-old Diano had also played for the Under-22 Azkals during the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

“He had a wonderful SEA Games campaign and we feel that this move will only develop his career, help him go from strength to strength and hopefully develop him into an Azkal,” Cooper said./PN
