ILOILO – Around 2,000 barangay officials, barangay health workers and tanod (watchmen) from 45 villages and 500 municipal employees of the local government of Dumangas were subjected to an unscheduled drug test on June 26.
The municipal employee included job hires and appointed officials.
According to Mayor Ronaldo Golez, the drug test was part of the municipal government’s campaign to ensure that Dumangas is free from illegal drugs.
Personnel of the Dumangas police station, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and Bureau of Fire and Protection (BFP) also took drug tests, said Golez.
The drug test was facilitated by the Municipal Health Office in coordination with the Department of Health.
According to Golez, Municipal Ordinance No. 2014-03 required compulsory semi-annual random drug tests to all elected and appointed municipal employees, including job hires and consultants.
He authored the ordinance when he was still a municipal councilor years back.
Results of the drug test would be made known soon.
Golez said sanctions await those who would fail the test./PN
