ILOILO City – Flower vendors in Iloilo are less than satisfied with the outcome of sales this week because a large portion of the flowers delivered by suppliers were damaged.
The flowers, which came from varying places in the country such as Cebu, Manila, Bacolod City and General Santos City, were damaged due to the poor shipping process, with the flowers being placed in the ship’s overcrowded warehouses, according to flower vendors at Central Market, Iloilo City.
Though sales this year are better compared to the year before, the flower vendors’ profits were minimized because of the considerable amount of “imperfect” flowers they were given, lessening the amount of flowers they can sell.
The peak days of buying flowers last Oct. 30 and 31 in preparation for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day were not enough to cover up the losses, the vendors said.
The vendors, who refused to disclose their identities, said they make up for the loss by saving the damaged flowers and putting them into arrangements. They also came up with a fair agreement with the suppliers in terms of payment./PN
