BACOLOD City – The United Negros Alliance (UNegA) is currently looking at three incumbent officials who have been shortlisted for vice governor in the 2025 midterm elections.
UNegA secretary-general and Cadiz City Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said Vice Gov. Jeffrey Ferrer may run for congressman of Negros Occidental’s 4th district.
With one final term for the post left, the vice governor also has the option of seeking re-election.
Ferrer’s spouse, 4th district Congresswoman Juliet Ferrer, is set to end her term in 2025.
According to Escalante, the officials of UNegA have already convened before the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections for possible candidates for vice governor as part of the ongoing coalition between their party and Love Negros.
Escalante, however, refused to name the three officials.
Another meeting is set for the coming weeks.
Escalante also confirmed that Negros Occidental 2nd district Congressman Alfredo “Thirdy” Marañon III is interested in running for governor, although not in 2025.
Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson of Love Negros said e has no problems with who UNegA will be fielding for vice governor, adding that the coalition between their parties remains strong.
Lacson confirmed yesterday, Nov. 7, that he will run for a third term in the 2025 elections.
He added that he has yet to meet with his local party over their plans, pointing out there is still time. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
