ILOILO City – Unidentified robbers barged into the mayor’s office in Pototan, Iloilo.
Three desktop computer monitors and a laptop owned by the secretary of Mayor Tomas Peñaflorida went missing.
Utility worker Ramil Silva discovered the burglary around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, the Pototan police chief Senior Inspector Bonifacio Alabe said, citing initial investigation.
Police believed the suspects gained entry through the comfort room at the back of the municipal hall around midnight or before dawn.
Identifying the suspects might prove a challenge, too, Alabe admitted — the building had neither a security guard nor a security camera.
Right now the police are trying to establish a connection between the town hall robbery and another burglary in Pototan on the same day.
A house owned by Johnny Parcon in Barangay Rumbang was robbed, too.
One of the suspects, Samuel Zarragosa of Barangay Calaparan, Arevalo, Iloilo City, was arrested.
A flat-screen television, a mobile phone, a wristwatch, and an iPod were seized from him.
Alabe said they suspected Zarragosa was connected with a robbery group selling stolen items in Iloilo City and also one of those behind the burglary at the mayor’s office.
Moreover he said Zarragosa and his cohorts could have connections with a taxi company.
According to Alabe, a nearby cab sped away when a patrol vehicle laden with police officers out to arrest Zarragosa arrived./PN
