ILOILO City – The Department of Labor and Employment’s attached agency, Compensation Commission (ECC), cleared up the confusion on the inclusion of members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and Bureau of Fire Protection under the Employees’ Compensation Program (ECP).
Despite non-coverage under the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) Law or Republic Act No. 8291, AFP and the PNP are covered by a separate social insurance agency/service namely the AFP-Retirement and Separation Benefits System, PNP-Police Retirement Benefit Service, Bureau of Fire Protection-Retirement and Benefits Administrative Service, and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Retirement and Benefits Administration Service.
According to ECC Regional Communications Officer Stephen Barredo, ECP cover uniformed personnel for any kind of work-related disability through ECP package of benefits for workers and/or their dependents in the event of work-related contingencies.
Benefits under ECP are loss of income, medical, career allowance, death, and rehabilitation services.
The ECC is an attached agency of the Department of Labor and Employment mandated to assist workers who have met work-related contingencies./PN
