MANILA – Reigning Philippines Football League (PFL) champions United City Football Club completed its first transaction for the 2021 season with the acquisition of goalkeeper Anthony Pinthus.
In an announcement made through its social media accounts recently, United City FC confirmed the signing of Pinthus, who only signed up as on loan player for the team in the 2020 PFL season.
The return of the Filipino-Swiss goalkeeper will provide the needed stability for the United City FC as they gear up for their much-anticipated debut in the 2021 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League.
Pinthus, who played for the 30th Southeast Asian Games more than a year ago, was among the young players the club acquired from the national under-23 standouts last August.
Pinthus could be just one of the many signings the United City FC is doing early this year after losing several key players following its PFL championship run in the Carmona bubble last November.
Among those who have departed the United City FC were Manny Ott, who will have his next stint in Malaysia, as well as Jose Elmer Porteria and Dennis Villanueva, who have signed for Thailand’s top-tier clubs.
Keeping the UCFC core of the PFL’s top three goal scorers in Bienvenido Marañon, Mike Ott and Robert Mendy, as well as skipper Stephan Schrock is the club’s priority for another shot at the title./PN
