ILOILO City – Uniwheels is one win away from clinching the Open Category championship of the 2022 Mayor Jerry P. Treñas New Normal Basketball tournament here.
Uniwheels pulled off a stunning 83-64 domination over defending champions DPWH/Iloilo Executives in Game 1 of the best-of-three finale on Tuesday night at the Western Institute of Technology Gym.
Ronilo Parojinog had a game long brilliance for the Uniwheels with 15 points, seven rebounds and three assists to be hailed as the Tanduay Player of the Game.
Uniwheels shocked the opposition since the opening quarter with its potent offense and its defensive clamps on the shooters of the DPWH/Iloilo Executives.
Parojinog and the Uniwheels will have a chance to take home the championship in Game 2 of the finals series tonight.
Uniwheels entered the championship round following an 86-65 victory over the Elite Lab with Irjohn Hermogino being hailed as the Player of the Match.
DPWH/Iloilo Executives, on the other hand, bested TEJ Buillders in a separate Final Four game, 109-65, as it relied on the efficient scoring of Miguel Sasuman.
TEJ Builders, on the other hand, salvaged a bronze medal finish with a 98-91 triumph over Elite Lab. Ronrei Tolentino spearheaded the offense for TEJ with 21 markers.
In the 40 Under category, IFCBA also moved closer to championship after a 90-80 victory over Iloilo Pros in Game 1 of the finals.
Wildcats, on the other hand, secured the 40 Under third place trophy following an 88-69 decision over Iloilo Executives./PN
