MANILA – Alexa Polidario and Erjane Magdato claimed the women’s title in the Beach Volleyball Republic on Tour at the Rizal Boulevard sand court in Dumaguete City.
The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos pair beat the visiting Samaa Miyagawa of Japan and Tin Lai of Hong Kong 21-15, 21-18 in the final round.
It was a fitting fight-back as Miyagawa and Lai defeated the local pair 21-15, 21-18, in the Group B classification match earlier in the day.
It was the second BVR title for Polidario and Magdato this year. They also took home the women’s title in the Bantayan leg in Cebu by defeating the duo of Angelique Gervacio and Kassie Gormley.
In the semifinal round, Polidario and Magdato stunned University of Santo Tomas’ Babylove Barbon and Genesa Eslapor, while Miyagawa and Lai edged Perlas Lady Spikers’ Bea Tan and Charo Soriano.
Polidario and Magdato took home the P30,000 top prize while Miyagawa and Lai had P20,000. Barbon and Eslapor settled for P10,000 for finishing on third place.
Other Western Visayan pairs – University of St. La Salle-Bacolod’s Mahriz Cosain and Bianca Lizares, and Team Bacolod’s Jennymar Senares and Jennifer Cosas – failed to qualify to the Final Four.
In the men’s category, USLS’ Deanne Neil Depedro and Harold Parcia and Bacolod’s Simon Aguillon and Ralph Savellano were unable to enter the semifinal round./PN
