UNSOLVED MURDERS: PRO-6 ‘not taking eyes off’ pending cases

ILOILO City – At least five “high-profile” murder cases in Western Visayas are still bamboozling cops. But the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is firm on cracking them one by one, according to its director, Police Brigadier General Flynn Dongbo.

“I will seriously deal with these cases,” Dongbo told Panay News.

Dongbo will convene all his city and provincial police directors to tackle the current progress of each case in terms of investigation.

“We will review if there are witnesses, evidence and possible suspects,” Dongbo said.

Here are among the unsolved cases under then PRO-6 director, retired Police Brigadier General Rolando Miranda:

Cui’s murder

On April 12 this year, Mariano Antonio “Marton” Cui III, who served as the Negros Occidental capitol’s consultant for hospital operations, was killed by a sniper while leaving his office in Barangay Palampas, San Carlos City.

The motive remained unclear.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson increased the reward money to P1.5 million for information which could lead to the arrest of the gunmen.

President Rodrigo Duterte had also ordered the National Bureau of Investigation’s aid.

Bacolod killings

On Aug. 31, drug suspect Glenn Paul Castillo of Barangay Cabug was shot, stabbed and beheaded on Rosario Street, Barangay 38.

His head was recovered three kilometers away in Barangay 2.

Eight people were last seen with Castillo before the incident.

Police recovered several empty .9mm and .45 bullet casings from the crime scene.

On Sept. 20, a handcuffed Mark Anthony Cubos of Aguinaldo Street was found with 26 gunshot wounds in Barangay Banago.

A placard was recovered beside him with the words, “El vigilante drug lord warrior” and “segeha pa, segeha pa, segeha nyo pa, INTERES PA LANG NI SA SINI NGA BULAN”.

Antique treasurer

On Oct. 14, a village treasurer in Barangay 8, San Jose, Antique was gunned down by two masked motorcycle-riding gunmen.

Forty-one-year-old Jose Servano Jr. of Barangay Del Pilar, Hamtic town was walking in front of the Old Capitol building with punong barangay Adrian Macuja when attacked.

The village chief was unscathed.

Servando reportedly had no known enemies.

City bizman

On Oct. 9, a controversial businessman who previously faced a string of criminal charges was shot and stabbed to death by riding-in-tandem gunmen along Fort San Pedro Drive, Barangay Veterans, Iloilo City.

Restaurateur Hamza Kayani, 31, of Barangay West Timawa, Molo district died of multiple gunshot and stab wounds at St. Paul’s Hospital Iloilo.

The attack was carried out around 10 p.m. while Kayani was with a 13-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy.

Diergos case

Businesswoman Claire Diergos was found dead inside her Montero Sports in Barangay Inangayan, Santa Barbara, Iloilo on Oct. 26.

But the special investigation team said she was murdered in her house at Deca Homes Subdivision in Pavia town.

The SIT was preparing to file the case as soon as evidences are ready.

The police refused to mention how many suspects there were, as well as their identities.

More than five witnesses also volunteered information.

The SIT earlier said they have the facial composites of two persons who may have the knowledge of the killing.

“We have to open the cases and see what we can do to solve them so justice will be served,” Dongbo said./PN
