UP Maroons to play in Iloilo, Passi in Jan.

UNIVERSITY of the Philippines Fighting Maroons will begin their build up for the UAAP Season 82 with a pair of exhibition matches in Iloilo and Passi cities in January 2019.

The Fighting Maroons are facing a team composed of selection of Ilonggo basketball players with two foreign players serving as reinforcement in two-day event slated on Jan. 19 and 20.

Expected to lead the way for the Maroons in the exhibition are returnees Bright Akhuetie, Juan and Javi Gomez de Llano, and Ricci Rivero, a transferee from De La Salle University Green Archers.

Andres Paul Desiderio and Diego Dario, UP’s key veterans in the just-concluded UAAP season, are already out of the team and are set to play for Blackwater Elite in the PBA.

The Fighting Maroons are fresh from an impressive UAAP men’s basketball campaign that saw them reaching the finals for the first time in nearly three decades.

However, the Dolreich Perasol-mentored team was not able to complete a cinderella run after being swept by the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles in the finals.

This will be the second time for the Maroons to play in Western Visayas after participating in a pocket tournament ni Passi City last July, where they placed second to Far Eastern University Tamaraws./PN
