“DEFEND UP” is probably one of the most stupid statements these days.
Defend the University of the Philippines from what, penguins?
These so-called eskolar ng bayan and their pseudo communist professors have conveniently omitted the fact that UP is a state-owned institution financed by taxes from citizens and not a private entity that they own.
These pseudo communist professors who romanticize the “first quarter storm” and their obsolete and failed ideology want to bring down the government yet are quite happy receiving their salaries and other benefits as all government employees are entitled and look forward when they retire and receive their pensions from the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), that is the epitome of hypocrisy.
Meanwhile, the idiots or, as they prefer to be called, eskolar ng bayan live the failed “revolutionary dreams” of these pseudo communist professors, suffering a hard life and dying in some God-forsaken jungle in an armed struggle to change our way of life into an obsolete one that even the biggest communist country in the world, China, has long forsaken.
I guess those old men wearing their own version of Mao’s “red guard” uniforms have never been to modern Shanghai, cosmopolitan Chengdu or even Hong-Kong. Nobody wears those obsolete clothes anymore, let alone paint their faces red.
Critical thinking, my foot!
It would be for the good of the nation if the government would just defund UP and divert the funds for some other projects that would benefit the citizens.
Can the President actually cut the funding of UP and divert the money to another government project?
Yes. He has the power to do so. In fact, he has several options under our law.
In Republic Act No. 11494, or the Bayanihan to Recover as One Act and Bayanihan as One Act Two, the President is authorized to “reallocate, realign and reprogram” existing funds approved in the 2020 national budget to address the needs of the people in a national state of emergency.
The President is also authorized to suspend the expenditure of appropriations, declare savings and realign the same under the Article 6, Section 25 of the Constitution, Section 38 and 39 of the Revised Administrative Code, and Section 66 of the 2020 General Appropriations Act.
The President can also request Congress to pass a bill defunding the University of the Philippines for reasons of being a threat to national security. Considering that he has control of Congress with the current Speaker beholden to him, this can easily be done and has already precedence. Plus, declaring it a priority bill due to reasons of national security will expedite the process.
So I say defund UP and replace it with Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry as the country’s premier institute of higher learning.
While we’re at it, the reason why the usual suspects, devotees to the cult of the yellow ribbon, “wokes” and pseudo communists vehemently oppose the Anti-Terror Law is that they can never win any democratic election. The only way for them is to topple government using illegal means and the Anti-Terror Law will stop them in their tracks.

We are now in the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic and it does look like the virus has no immediate plans of going away just yet. Not to despair, here’s light at the end of the tunnel: vaccination will soon get underway and it’s going to work. Just look beyond the petty politics and racism and look to science because stupid politics and racism will not save you. It’s not Leni Robredo nor those idiots on Twitter but the man you hate, Rodrigo Duterte, who can bring the vaccines in to this country.

The lockdowns and quarantine, the de rigueur wearing of facemask and face shield and social distancing have actually worked. Compared to most countries in Europe and the United States of America (the favorite country of most of the natives inflicted with colonial mentality), we are much better off than them. Recovery is high and deaths are quite low. Even the strain of the virus is not as strong. Our healthcare system is not overworked and so far transmission is managed.
Speaking of pandemic and virus, consider these data:
* 75 percent of emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic, meaning animal in origin (World Health Organization data)
* 99.6 percent of animals on earth are livestock, only .04 percent are wild animals (ourworldindata.org)
* 90 percent of livestock are from factory farms
* 75 percent x 99.6 percent x 90 percent = 67 percent chance the next pandemic is a direct result of our animal food system
It can only mean one thing: eating animals causes pandemics!
Maybe it’s time you should seriously consider shifting to a plant-based diet, you save yourself, the animals and the planet as well.
Take note: nobody has died yet from eating talong and alugbate but eating lechon the pig has killed many (you will eventually get hypertension and die from it).
And that brings to mind Leni Robredo and her “spaghetti stunt” photo ops which, according to some, looks “anemic”, in desperate need of more sauce and was not distributed hygienically.
If you want to feed the poor, by all means do so. But the moment you post pictures doing it, you’re just feeding your ego and, of course, your political ambitions./PN
