ILOILO City – A graduate of University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) ranked No. 8 in the recent Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Board Exam.
The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) released the results on Oct. 22.
Lyka Ranette A. Borja, 22, of Barangay Compania Central, Molo district posted a rating of 89.67 percent.
This Bachelor of Science in Accountancy cum laude said she was pleasantly surprised. Topping the exam was not in her radar, she explained.
She learned of the results from friends.
“My goal was just to pass the exam,” said Borja, whose mother Liza was a CPA herself.
Her mother was an inspiration, according to the new CPA.
“Sa iya ako nagsunod. Ang iya yapak ang akon gusto,” said Borja. “Happy gid ako and very grateful. Ang akon hardships paid-off. I’m thankful sa kay God kag sa family ko.”
Borja was a consistent honor student in elementary (Colegio de las Hijas de Jesus), high school (Iloilo National High School) and college (UPV).
Now that she is a CPA, Borja said she would be job-hunting.
The board exam was administered by PRC in the following key cities: Manila, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Legazpi, Tacloban, and Tuguegarao on Oct. 6, 7 and 13.
Out of 14,358 examinees, 3,616 passed.
A graduate from the University of Sto. Tomas (UST) ranked No. 1 – Lahaira Amy Cayog Reyes who got a rating of 91.83 percent.
UP Diliman was the top performing school; 94.52 percent of its examinees passed./PN
