ROXAS City — Classes for Master of Management courses under the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) will be held in this city starting next month.
The university was offering Master of Management in Business Management and Master of Management in Public Management.
The function room of El Circulo Convention Center in Pueblo de Panay in Barangay Lawa-an will serve as classroom for the first batch of post-graduate students under this scheme.
Due to lack of faculty members, only 30 students were accommodated for the first batch.
Representatives from UPV, provincial government and Pueblo de Panay signed a memorandum of agreement on the scheme yesterday at the convention center.
The offers are open for students not only in Capiz but also in the nearby provinces.
UPV’s post-graduate courses in management are in line with the development of the province, said Professor Mary Ann Gumban, the university’s College of Management dean.
If the number of enrollees increases, a building for the program will be built at the “educational zone” of Pueblo de Panay, a residential and commercial township, and other courses will be offered.
Those who signed the agreement were Gumban, Gov. Victor Tanco Sr., UPV chancellor Dr. Rommel Espinosa, Pueblo de Panay president and chief executive officer Jose Nery Ong, Pueblo de Panay corporate planning officer Sarah Roxanne Soriano, and Provincial Prosecutor Rodulfo Beluso, vice president of the UP Alumni Association–Capiz Chapter.
Ong clarified that UPV has not put up a campus in this city but was only extending its services.
Post-graduate courses that UPV offers can be a “catalyst for growth in Capiz and northern Panay,” he said.
This was not the first time that UPV offered post-graduate courses in management in Capiz. It had offered similar courses in the ’80s./PN
